Ojai is great day-tripping from LA. Take the Pacific Coast Highway, bask in the glory of our California landscape, stop at a beach along the way and you can be there in time for lunch. Take the 33 from Ventura, it winds along between the mountains but when you reach Ojai it opens up into a valley surrounded by the Topa Topa mountains.
Our favorite local bite is Boccali’s family restaurant on the far end of town. Sit at one of the picnic tables and take in the valley view.
What to order? Where to start? The pizza is amazing, the meat sauce is incredible and the meatballs are sauced with meat sauce – bring a big appetite and just enjoy it.
If you are there during the Dog Days of Summer you can always share a strawberry shortcake for dessert. It is a bisquick shortcake just like we had growing up – topped with local strawberries – hold the whipped cream and you are in heaven as you watch the Topa Topa’s glow pink as the sun is setting. Yummy and awesome!
Two things make sure you have cash and its only open til 9.
