Another one of my favorites from LACMA’s California Design, 1930-1965: “Living in a Modern Way” show for Pacific Standard Time in LA (PSTinLA) is this screen print “Enriched Bread” by Sister Corita Kent. There are lots of works on paper in this show that’ll knock your socks off but this work of pop art is a show-stopper. “Enriched Bread” hits you with humor, color and a child-like wonderment.
What does this have to do with Bauer Pottery and Holiday Sales?
A celebration of Los Angeles and California design of course!!!
Bauer Pottery is producing a collection of products based on Sister Kent’s artwork “Corita by Bauer“–yes, I know you love the Bauer of mid-century design. Bauer Pottery, located near the original LA factory, is reproducing Bauer under the name Bauer 2000, Russell Wright’s “American Modern” line and a line of Bauer gardenware “Home by Sunset” for Sunset Magazine. It’s an exciting time in Los Angeles for ceramics!
Bauer’s Holiday Sale starts at their showroom this weekend. Check it out for deals for holiday gifts and don’t miss the LACMA show to see the original Wonder Bread print and all the other masterpieces of mid-century California design.
Happy shopping. Ceramics enrich your life!
LACMA’s California Design, 1930-1965: “Living in a Modern Way” runs through June 3, 2012. Check out the PSTinLA website for more shows on California design.
