The Palm Springs Desert Garden Tour, Sunday April 13, 1-4pm, will be ninth annual tour for the Desert Horticultural Society of the Coachella Valley. Once a year Palm Springs home owners graciously open their gardens and share their desert-adapted plants and garden stories with us. This year’s gardens are sure to impress, inspire and give you time to reflect on the dramatic and quiet beauty of a desert landscape and the view of our mountains beyond. There is always a garden for everyone on the tour – whether you enjoy an intimate courtyard, a soft and unstructured garden with lots of blooming flowers, an architectural cactus garden or a mix of everything and Sunday is the day to wander behind the garden gate and experience what makes these gardens havens for people, wildlife and plants. You can buy your tickets online at Deserthorticulturalsociety.org or the day of the tour at the Wellness Park at Ruth Hardy Park ((SW corner of Via Miraleste & Tachevah) in Palm Springs from 12:30-2:00. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for students and onsite registration is cash only. All ticket holders will receive their tour map and hand stamp at onsite registration.
Proceeds from this year’s garden tour will go to our scholarship program and to fund a grant for the Palm Springs High School to convert a portion of their large grass areas to desert landscaping. For more information on the tour see this wonderful write up by Maureen Gilmer in The Desert Sun. Each garden will have a water cooler where you can refill your water bottles. Have a wonderful day and enjoy!! –Tracy Merrigan
